Newcastle Rowing Club - Infunde Aquam Solum

About The Club

We are situated at the end of Tully Street in the inner city suburb of Carrington (on Throsby Creek). Just come over the Cowper St Bridge - take the first turn left, then left again around the oval to the water. We moved into our brand new boat shed in August 2009 after two and half years without a 'permanent home' - a new beginning for the club.

Rowing Australia’s 2021 Club of the Year

Newcastle Rowing Club was named Rowing Australia’s 2021 Club of the Year for driving rowing participation and development during the year.

Although NRC is a relatively small club it has a number of programs including a growing Junior Development Squad, Rookie Rowing, indoor rowing, and popular club events including The Bustle and ERGtober. The club also regularly supports local organisations through fundraising and donations.

Our members are passionately enthusiastic and support each other in competition and other athletic pursuits. The award was received on behalf of the club by NRC Life Members, President John McLeod OAM and Club Captain Phoebe Sanders, and they thank all those members who have done an incredible amount of work over the last 30 years to make our club great

A Long History

The Newcastle Rowing Club has a long history spanning over four eras, starting in 1870.

The full story of Newcastle Rowing Club (and that of competitive rowing in Newcastle) is covered in detail in a club history 'Just Add Water, The Times and Tides of Newcastle Rowing Club' by Colin Charters, released in December 2009.

Click HERE to see the cover of the book.  Colin's book sold out on the first day! A second run is now available - ask via the contact page.

Our club's history and a full copy of ‘Just Add Water. The Times and Tides of Newcastle Rowing Club’ by Colin Charters is now available on the Australian Rowing History website via the following link:
