Newcastle Rowing Club - Infunde Aquam Solum

About The Club

Our club and shed is located by the water at the end of Tully Street in Carrington on Throsby Creek. Just come over the Cowper St Bridge - take the first turn left, then left again around the oval to the water. Being part of our Club

Newcastle Rowing Club welcomes everyone who wants to row, as often or as little as you want. We are a diverse club with members of all ages, from school students to long since retired and everything in between. We also have a mix of recreational rowers and competitive rowers who love to train hard and race at local, state and national regattas. You choose your journey.

NRC offers a number of programs including a Junior Development Squad, Learn to Row, Turn Up and Row, indoor rowing, and popular club events such as regulart Bustles and ERGtober.

New to Rowing

Many of our members have come to our club as complete novices. You can start by attending a Learn to Row course then you can complete the Membership Application Form to join in some of our training days. Set your own goals and the club will support you to get there.

Get Back Into Rowing

If you have had a break from rowing and would like to return, please complete the Membership Application Form and get in touch via our Contact Page and we can arrange to get you back on the water!

A Long History

The Newcastle Rowing Club has a long history spanning over four eras, starting in 1870.

The full story of Newcastle Rowing Club (and that of competitive rowing in Newcastle) is covered in detail in a club history 'Just Add Water, The Times and Tides of Newcastle Rowing Club' by Colin Charters, released in December 2009.

Click HERE to see the cover of the book.  Colin's book sold out on the first day! A second run is now available - ask via the contact page. Our club's history and a full copy of ‘Just Add Water. The Times and Tides of Newcastle Rowing Club’ by Colin Charters is available on the Australian Rowing History website.

Join us at our 2025 Regatta

We are hosting our annual 2025 CDRA Sprint Championships this Sunday 9 November. Everyone is welcome - our local community, rowing community, family, friends and everyone who enjoys a great sport for both athletes and spectators.

Join us for an action packed day in our beautiful Throsby Creek, bring a chair and an umbrella and get ready for a great day out watching exciting sprint races.

We will be offering a range of foods and drinks including coffee, BBQ, home made treats, drinks and other delights.

Thank you to some of our early sponsors, Orica for sponsoring the Throsby Gift, Port Waratah Coal Services, the Port of Newcastle and of course our affiliate sporting organisation, Rowing NSW.
